First of all, I have no issue with the software, it is excellent and I have used it for around 20 years. It is and has always been an essential part of my digital workflow. I first bought a copy when it was around £250, a very expensive purchase. However, there are three essential components, Dfine, which deals with grain, Sharpener Pro, which deals with sharpening and Silver Efx which is the best Black and White tool around. The other components are readily available elsewhere. The history of the program is it was owned by Nik software, sold to Google some years ago, who after initially charging for it latterly gave it away free and then a few years back sold to DXO, the current owners. DXO has introduced a number of very minor upgrades, the program was pretty complete 10 years ago and now sell it for $150. that would be fine, except they have no discount policy for existing users, even those such as myself, who paid literally hundreds of pounds supporting upgrades though the first decade of the 21st Century. therefore despite owning the paid-for version for years, the only way I can upgrade to a version that works on my M1 Mac, is to pay for a full copy, once again, not an upgrade. I did very reluctantly buy another full version when it was on offer, but given that it offers no more functionality than it did when Google offered it for free, to say that this is poor customer support is an understatement, not least because I very much doubt they paid Google very much for the software in the first place. So the program gets 10 out of 5 DXO get 0 out of 5. Incidentally, to make their customer service even worse, I have been a user for years of their other programs, for which I have also paid them a lot of money in buying their software and upgrading and therefore their attitude towards existing Nik customers frankly stinks.
